Wall Insulation for Block and Frame Homes
Wall Insulation in Southwest Florida usually means one of two very different walls. Many Naples homes have concrete block exterior walls, with thin furring strips and drywall on the inside. Others, especially additions, upper floors and newer homes, have wood-frame walls. The approach for each is different, and the right one depends on whether the wall is open or finished.
Concrete block walls
Block walls are counted as mass walls in the Florida energy code, which lists R-6, or R-4 continuous, in Climate Zone 2. When a wall is opened during a remodel, closed-cell foam between the furring strips adds insulation and helps stop moisture that can be driven through block in a heavy storm. On finished block walls the options are more limited, and we will tell you plainly when insulation is not worth the cost of opening the wall.
Frame walls
The same code lists R-13 for wood-frame walls in Zone 2. In new construction or an open remodel, open-cell or closed-cell foam fills the cavity and seals the sheathing seams at once. In existing finished frame walls, dense-pack cellulose or fiberglass can often be blown in through small holes that are patched afterward.
Where walls matter most
West-facing walls, walls behind the garage, and walls in rooms over a garage tend to run hot. If one room is always warmer than the rest of the house, the wall may be part of it, though the attic and ductwork are often the bigger cause. We check all three before recommending wall work.
Remodels and additions
If you are adding a room, enclosing a lanai or gutting a kitchen, tell us before drywall goes up. Open walls are the easiest and least costly time to insulate, and foam at that stage also seals gaps around windows and outlets.
Noise
Foam and dense-pack in walls also reduce some outside noise, which owners near busy roads appreciate.

What This Covers
Wall options we install.
Closed cell on block
Foam sprayed between furring strips on the inside of exterior block walls during remodels.
Open walls in additions
Open-cell or closed-cell foam in new frame walls before drywall goes up.
Dense-pack in finished walls
Cellulose or fiberglass blown into closed frame cavities through small holes, then patched.
Garage-to-house walls
Insulating and sealing the shared wall to cut heat and fumes from the garage.

Typical Wall Insulation Costs
| Job | Range and source |
|---|---|
| Spray foam, existing walls | $3.15 to $7.50 per sq ft (Fixr) |
| Spray foam, new construction | $2.75 to $6.50 per sq ft (Fixr) |
| All exterior walls, spray foam | $4,000 to $10,000 (HomeGuide) |
| Blown-in, exterior walls | $1,900 to $7,800, $1.10 to $3.70 per sq ft (HomeGuide); $2,000 to $4,000 (Fixr) |
| Dense-pack cellulose | $1.60 to $4.20 per sq ft (HomeGuide) |
These are national ranges from Fixr (2025) and HomeGuide (2025 to 2026) for typical wood-frame homes; block walls and open remodels price differently. Wall type, whether the wall is open, patching and access change the total. The written estimate we give you after the visit is the price.
How It Works
1. Wall check
We identify block or frame, find which walls are open or finished, and check what is in them.
2. Options in writing
The quote compares foam, dense-pack or no change, with target R-values and prices.
3. Install
Foam in open walls, or drilling, blowing and plugging in finished frame walls.
4. Finish
Holes plugged and patched ready for paint, and the area cleaned.

Wall Insulation Questions
Can you insulate concrete block walls without tearing them out?
Not easily. Block walls usually have only a thin furring space, so the practical time to add foam is when the drywall is off during a remodel. We will tell you if it is worth it otherwise.
What R-value do Florida walls need?
The 8th Edition (2023) Florida energy code lists R-13 for wood-frame walls and R-6, or R-4 continuous, for mass walls such as block in Climate Zone 2.
Will blowing insulation into my walls leave holes?
Small holes are drilled, then plugged and patched. They need paint afterward, and we tell you in advance which walls are involved.
Is wall insulation the cause of my hot room?
Sometimes, but attic heat and leaky ducts are more common causes. We check those first so you do not pay for the wrong fix.
