When Roof Deck Spray Foam Makes Sense
Roof Deck Spray Foam moves the insulation from the attic floor up to the underside of the roof. The soffit and ridge vents are sealed, and the attic becomes a semi-conditioned space a few degrees from the rooms below rather than one of the hottest places on the property. In a Naples home where the air handler and supply ducts run through the attic, that change can matter more than adding inches on the floor.
Why the ducts matter
Ducts carry the coldest air in the house. When they sit in a summer attic, any leak or thin wrap means you pay to cool the attic. Putting the insulation above them, at the roof deck, cuts that loss without having to move equipment.
Open or closed cell under the roof
Open-cell foam is the common choice for roof decks here. It is lighter, lower in cost per R, and because it is vapor-open a roof leak tends to show up as a stain instead of rotting the deck in secret. Closed cell may be specified under certain roof assemblies or where added stiffness is wanted. We tell you which we would use and why.
Timing with a new roof
After a storm or at the end of a roof's life is a good moment to plan this. Many Naples homes were re-roofed after Hurricanes Irma and Ian, and owners often ask whether to foam the deck while they are at it. Foam goes on from inside the attic, so it can follow the roofer, but the new roof has to be dry and tight first.
What changes for you
After a roof deck job, the attic runs much closer to indoor temperature. Ducts and the air handler stop sitting in extreme heat, and rooms at the end of long duct runs often cool more evenly. We cannot promise a specific bill reduction, but we explain what to expect.
What we check first
We look for active leaks, staining, sagging decking, gas appliances that rely on attic air, and bath fans that vent into the attic. Those get resolved before any foam goes up. Call (239) 977-5375 or get a free estimate.
What This Covers
Pieces of a roofline foam job.
Underside of the roof deck
Foam applied to the sheathing and rafters to the specified thickness, closing the attic to outdoor air.
Gable ends and kneewalls
Sealing and insulating gable walls so the attic is fully enclosed.
Soffit and ridge vent closure
Vents sealed so the attic is no longer open to hot, humid outdoor air.
Equipment and fan check
Bath and dryer vents routed outdoors and combustion appliances reviewed before the attic is sealed.

Typical Roof Deck Spray Foam Costs
| Job | Range and source |
|---|---|
| Spray foam on the roof deck | $1,500 to $9,000 (HomeGuide) |
| Spray foam, attic (existing home) | $2,500 to $12,000 (Fixr) |
| Open-cell, installed | $1.50 to $3.50 per sq ft (HomeGuide) |
| Closed-cell, installed | $3.00 to $5.00 per sq ft (HomeGuide) |
| Old insulation removal (attic floor) | $1 to $2 per sq ft (HomeGuide) |
| Typical job minimum | $1,000 to $2,000+ (HomeGuide) |
Ranges come from HomeGuide's 2026 spray foam and attic guides and Fixr's 2025 spray foam guide. Roof pitch, area, foam thickness and whether the old attic-floor insulation comes out drive the price. We quote after measuring, and the written estimate is your price.
How It Works
1. Roof and attic check
We confirm the roof is dry and sound and note vents, fans and any gas appliances.
2. Quote and plan
The written quote shows foam type, thickness, target R-value and how vents will be handled.
3. Prep and spray
We protect the house, seal the work area and apply foam to the deck, gables and kneewalls.
4. Ventilate and review
The house is ventilated before re-entry, and we walk through the finished attic with you.

Roof Deck Spray Foam Questions
Will foam on the roof deck hide a leak?
Open-cell foam is vapor-open, so leaks usually show as staining. It is still important to fix the roof before spraying, which is why we inspect first.
Do I keep the insulation on the attic floor?
Sometimes it comes out so the attic and house share air more freely, and sometimes it can stay. We explain the trade-off for your attic and price removal separately.
Does an unvented attic need anything else?
The attic is treated as part of the house, so it may need a small amount of conditioned air or a dehumidification plan. We point this out on the quote.
Can you foam right after a new roof?
Yes, once the roof is complete and the deck is dry. Ask your roofer for the finish date and we will schedule after it.
